In an important “Make in India” moment, scientists at a Hyderabad lab say they have developed the world’s first vaccine against the Zika Virus. They say, in fact, that they have two.
A global health emergency has been declared by the World Health Organisation following increased reports of the virus.
It has been linked to birth defects in newly-born children after pregnant women are bitten by mosquitoes.
There are now fears that the virus can also be spread by having unprotected sex.
They have developed 2 versions of initial vaccinations and the approval is pending from WHO(world health organisation).
